NoHu International Short Film Festival

OMF got a great response from the crowd at the NoHu International Short Film Festival in Union City, NJ on Friday, October 18th. We were delighted to receive an Honorable Mention in the awards ceremony on Saturday. Congratulations to the other award winners, and thanks to Commissioner Lucio Fernandez and the town of Union City for supporting Hudson County artists!

Chain NYC Film Fest Discussion

Discussion with the audience led by Chain NYC Film Festival director Kirk Gostkowski

The Chain NYC Film Festival screenings were successful! On Wednesday, September 14th there was a discussion after the screening with festival director Kirk Gostkowski.

One of the questions he asked was which came first: the concept, or the idea to make stop motion animation. The answer is that the concept came first, when I heard about the advancing technology of prosthetic limbs and wondered what would happen if that technology was exploited for profit and marketed as a luxury to the general public. This seemed like a wonderful starting point for a comedic social commentary.

The idea to make the short using claymation came later, and I liked it because it would add a handmade and organic element, which contrasts with the theme of increasing reliance on technology and machinery.

OMF Praised in The Montclair Dispatch

" One of the highlights of the night was the second film, “Our Mechanical Future,” directed by MSU alumni, Jenina Podulka. The film toys with the idea of how the populous is shaped by technology – in this case prosthetic limbs.  It was poignant, subtly scathing yet whimsical in its portrayal of consumerism. It begged the questions: What will be the effect of cutting edge technology when it is mass produced? And what has become obsolete in our own world?

'It was an awesome experience,' Podulka said after the event. 'This was the largest venue where I have presented a film. It was worth the two months of no sunlight during production.' "

Our Mechanical Future at Montclair Film Festival!

Last night Our Mechanical Future was screened at the Bellevue Theater in Montclair, NJ as part of Montclair Film Festival's "NJ Shorts: New Visions From MSU" program. The theater was packed, and there were lots of laughs!
